Where can I get some battery hens?

British Hen Welfare TrustOne of the most frequently asked questions we get asked is “where can I get some battery hens?”

We don’t actually do the rescuing from Battery Farms. The Rehoming Battery Hens site is all about what to do after rescuing battery hens and what you need to know to keep them healthy and happy through articles on the blog and by way of our free audio guide.

However, if you want to get your own hens then we only recommend you get rescued battery hens from the British Hen Welfare Trust: http://www.bhwt.org.uk/cms/re-home-some-hens.

We do not advise you get them direct from Battery Farms as you will not know their history or if they have any health problems.

If you do rescue your own battery hens, please let us know by commenting on our blog and sending us pictures through our Rehoming Battery Hens Facebook Fanpage. And remember, grab your free audio guide to Rehoming Battery hens by entering your email address into the box on the top right.

I have had chickens as pets for a number of years, but am now looking for information about where ex-battery hens can be adopted in the USA. Also an egg industry that I can contact about adopting some of their hens would be helpful. My concerns are the battery hens. I want to help people adopt them so they can have a new chance at life at the end of there laying period and a forever loving home. I know that there are many places to adopt the hens in the UK, but that’s just to far away. I want to help the battery hens as much as I possible can. So I am specifically looking for information, on adopting battery hens in the USA. We need to stand up and help the battery hens.
Please, if you have any information let me know; it would be very much appreciated

    Thank you

      Dear Gabrielle,
Thank you for getting in touch and what a wonderful idea.
Unfortunately I am not directly in touch with any US rehoming centers.
Having said this I have been doing some research on your behalf and the
British Hen Welfare trust ( where we rehomed our girls from) have a
contact in California. They advise you to email them directly and they
will pass your information onto their contact.
I appreciate the U.S is a big country but their contact may be able to
help further if California is too far for you.

I will keep looking for you if that’s OK too?

Good luck and if you could let us know how you get on I would be very
      grateful.
I am sure you won’t be the last to ask this question and it would be
great to be able to help directly.
